ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the clinical effect of warm acupuncture at Zhongwan(CV 12) for chronic atrophic gastritis(CAG) with spleen-stomach deficiency cold by the comparison with conventional acupuncture.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Sixty-two patients were randomly assigned into a warm acupuncture group and a conventional acupuncture group,31 cases in each one. The acupoints in the two groups were Zhongwan(CV 12),Zusanli(ST 36),Neiguan(PC 6),Gongsun(SP 4),Qihai(CV 6),Pishu(BL 20) and Weishu(BL 21). Warm acupuncture was intervened at Zhongwan(CV 12) in the warm acupuncture group. Twirling reinforcing was applied at Zhongwan(CV 12) in the conventional acupuncture group. All the treatment was given for 3 courses continuously,5 days as one course, once a day. TCM syndrome score and symptom rating scale were observed before and after treatment in the two groups, and the effects were compared.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The total effective rate was 93.5%(29/31) in the warm acupuncture group, which was better than 87.0%(27/31) in the conventional acupuncture group(<0.05). The TCM syndrome score and symptom rating score were improved in the two groups after treatment(<0.01,<0.05),with more apparent improvement in the warm acupuncture group(<0.01,<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Warm acupuncture at Zhongwan(CV 12) can improve gastrointestinal discomfort, which is better than twirling reinforcing at Zhongwan(CV 12) for CAG with spleen-stomach deficiency cold.</p>

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo observe the clinical efficacy of joint needling plus heat-tonifying needling in treating knee osteoarthritis (KOA).MethodEighty KOApatients were randomized into atreatmentgroup and a control group. Thetreatmentgroup was intervened by joint needling plus heat-tonifying needling. The control group was intervened by ordinary acupuncture. The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) from the short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ) was adopted to evaluate the pain intensity.Result The total effective rate was 92.5% in thetreatmentgroup, versus 87.5% inthe control group, and there was a significant difference in comparing the VAS score between thetreatmentgroup and the control group after intervention (P<0.05), indicating that the treatmentgroup had advantages in the improvement of the motor function of knee joint.ConclusionIn treating KOA, joint needling plus heat-tonifying needling has advantages in improving the motor function compared with ordinary acupuncture.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the incidence and the risk factors of anxiety or depression and in the first degree relatives (FDRs) of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus ( T2DM ). Methods A total of 102 T2DM patients who visited our hospital from May to July 2010 and their FDRs completed SAS,SDS,and life satisfaction evaluation. The medical history of T2DM patients was collected and compared with their FDRs with or without mental disorders. The correlations of risk factors with anxiety or depression were analyzed, t test or X2 test were used for statistical analysis and a P value less than 0. 05 was considered statistically significant. Results The incidence of anxiety or depression of FDRs was 31.4% and 17.6%,respectively. The life satisfaction score of FDRs with mental disorders was significantly decreased ( t = 4. 26 and 4. 09, P<0. 05 ). Fasting glucose level of T2DM patients with anxious or depressive FDRs was significantly increased ( t = -2. 48 and -2. 15, P<0. 05 ). Higher medical cost and multiple treatment strategies were positively correlated with SAS and SDS score of the FDRs. Conclusion Higher incidence of mental disorders and lower satisfaction scores could be found in the FDRs of T2DM patients. Better control of blood glucose and reduced treatment cost and strategies may be useful in improving metal condition and life satisfaction of the FDRs of T2DM patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the effects of interventional thermotherapy(60℃)via hepatic artery on the vascular permeability of hepatic tumor tissue and normal liver tissue in VX2 tumor-bearing rabbits. Methods Thirty white rabbits were used in this experiment,Thirty VX2 tumor-bearing rabbits models were established by direct injection of VX2 tissue particle into the liver parenchyma and were randomly and equally divided into three groups:(1)non-perfusion group(n=10),used as control group; (2)normal thermal perfusion group(n=10),a perfusion of 30ml saline at 37 4±0.5℃ via hepatic artery in 15 minutes was used;(3)hyper-thermai perfusion group(n=10),a perfusion of 30ml saline at 60±0.5℃via hepatic artery in 15 minutes was used. The vascular permeability of the tumor tissue and the normal liver tissue was estimated with Evan's blue method. Results In all three groups the vascular permeability was significantly incleased in tumor tissue than that in normal liver tissue(P<0.05).Normal thermal perfusion resulted in a significant increase in the permeability of vasculature(JP>0.05).Hyper-thermal peffusion resulted in a significant increase in vascular permeability of tumor tissue (P<0.05),and vascular permeability was increased in tumor tissue mole markedly than that in normal tissue(P<0.05).Conclusion Hyperthermia hepatic arterial perfusion can increase vascular permeability for both tumor tissue and normal tissue in VX2 tumor-bearing rabbits.

ABSTRACT

[Objective]To determine the initial stability and function of a new artificial joint in a cadaveric cervical spine model by comparing it with a conventional method. [Methods]Twelve fresh human cadaveric cervical spines(C0~3) were randomly divided into 2 groups: group 1,resection of the odontoid with artificial atlanto-odontoid joint(AAOJ),and group 2,resection of the odontoid with Magerl atlas and axis by transarticular screw fixation(Magerl). For each specimen, the intact and resection of the odontoid underwent a flexibility test firstly, followed by the instrumented construct.Rotational angles of the C0~3 segment were measured to study the immediate stability and function of resection of the odontoid and AAOJ,compared with the intact and resection of the odontoid and Magerl.[Results]Compared to the intact state, resection of the odontoid and AAOJ resulted in a significant decrease in the range of motion(ROM) and neutral zone(NZ) during flexion, extension, and lateral bending(P0.05).Compared to the intact state, resection of the odontoid and Magerl resulted in a significant decrease in the range of motion(ROM) and neutral zone(NZ) during all 6 degrees of freedom(P0.05).[Conclusion]A new type of artificial atlanto-odontoid joint has been designed for correcting atlantoaxial instability resulted from C1、2 anterior decompression procedures. It can restore,to a great extent, the C1、2 axial rotation that is lost during current stabilization procedures.

ABSTRACT

[Objective] To investigate the stability and function of atlantoaxial segment after atlas odontoid process artificial joint replacement.[Method]Ten fresh adult human head and neck specimens were chosen for biomechanical models. The range of motion(ROM),neutral zone(NZ)and stiffness under intact state,post-decompression,post-replacement surgery and post-fatigue were measured respectively.[Result]After decompression,ROM,NZ and stiffness in flexion, extension, right and left lateral bending, and right and left axial rotation increased significantly(P0.05)than that in intact state group.[Conclusion]Artificial atlantoaxial joint in this study has been proved to have biomechanical significance in morphology and dynamic. It has advantages of stable replacement, simple operation, less injury and low wear characteristics. It provides a new choice for the atlantoaxial fusion of anterior or posterior approach.
